Legal Information Access Centre (LIAC)
The Legal Access Information Centre (LIAC) is a free library-based legal information service in NSW public libraries.
In the Albury-Wodonga region this service is provided by the Upper Murray Regional Library, with the main LIAC collection based at Albury Library.
LIAC provides:
- legal information, from plain language and simple guides, books and pamphlets, to legal texts, more complex primary materials, anda serial on changes to the law in NSW called Hot Topics
- areferral guide to agencies providing free legal information and advice
- an information service at the State Library of NSW, and
- the Legal Tool Kit, which is a collection ofalmost20 important books about general interest areas of the law.
The Upper Murray Regional Library provides public library services to the local government areas of Albury, Wodonga, Corowa, Upper Hume, Tumbarumba, Indigo and Towong.
The Upper Murray Regional Library website has contact details for each of their branches and you can search their online catalogue to find legal information books.
You can do an advanced search for items in the LIAC collection by selecting “LIAC” from the drop-down “Collection” menu.
Books can be borrowed by members of Upper Murray Regional Library. Membership of the library is free and available to members of the public.
- Albury Library holds the Legal Tool Kit, a collection of legal texts, pamphlets, and the Hot Topics series.
- Wodonga Library has selected legal information books, plus a collection of free Victorian Consumer Affairs pamphlets.
- Lavington, Corowa and Holbrook Libraries hold the full Legal Tool Kit plus Hot Topics.
- Other branches hold selected Legal Tool Kit titles plus Hot Topics.
