Indigenous people

Community Legal Centres

The following specialist Community Legal Centres have expertise in dealing with indigenous issues and provide a range of services and resources:

  • Aboriginal Family Violence Prevention and Legal Service (FVPLS)
    FVPLS Victoria provides free legal advice, counselling, information, referral and support to Aboriginal victims/survivors of Family Violence and Sexual Assault. The FVPLS Victoria is based in metropolitan Melbourne and provides outreach services to Regional Victoria.
  • Victorian Aboriginal Legal Service
    The Victorian Aboriginal Legal Service provides free casework assistance for all Aboriginal people who have cases listed in Victoria. For those Kooris who have cases in other states they provide some advice and referral to other agencies. Services not dependent on where you live.

Other organisations

Indigenous Law Centre
Operating from the Faculty of Law, University of New South Wales, the Indigenous Law Centre develops and co-ordinates research, teaching and information services in the multi-disciplinary area of Indigenous peoples and the law.
