Your local generalist Community Legal Centre can help you with information about criminal matters, including arrest, bail, remand, witnesses, statements, police powers, searches, cautions and crimes compensation. See the Find a Local CLC section of our website.
The Federation of Community Legal Centres facilitates the Police Issues Working Group, which is made up of staff from member organisations. The working group maintains a watching brief on police in Victoria and responds to enquiries and reports into police practices and policies, and increases of power. It examines the impact of police practices and procedures, and issues in relation to abuse of power.

An independent agency that investigates, monitors and detects police misconduct and abuses of power of the Victoria Police.
Ombudsman Victoria
You can contact the Ombudsman if you feel you have been unfairly treated by a Victorian government department or statutory authority. The Victorian Ombudsmaninvestigates complaints about administrative actions taken by Victorian government departments, statutory authorities and local government.
Commonwealth Ombudsman
You can contact the Ombudsman if you feel you have been unfairly treated by a Federal government department or statutory authority. The Commonwealth Ombudsman resolves complaints about administrative actions taken by Federal Government departments and statutory bodies.
