Your local generalist Community Legal Centre can help you with fines, complaints about public transport companies, inspectors and your rights as a public transport user. See the Find a Local CLC section of our website.
The following specialist CLCs have expertise in dealing with public transport issues:
- Youthlaw
Youthlaw, the Young Peoples’ Legal Rights Centre, have experience helping young people with public transport issues. Services provided to all Victorian residents under the age of 25.
- Homeless Persons’ Legal Clinic(Public Interest Law Clearing House)
The Homeless Persons’ Legal Clinic has vast experience in assisting people how have experienced or are at risk of homelessness in dealing with public transport fines. Free legal advice is available at 11 outreach services across Melbourne.
Other community organisations
Public Transport Users Association The PTUA is a consumer organisation representing passengers of all forms of public transport. It is a non-profit, voluntary organisation, with no political affiliations.
Government organisations
Department of Infrastructure
The Department of Infrastructure coordinates Victorian public transport – including train, tram, bus, taxi and ferry services. It also issues public transport fines.
Ombudsman schemes
Ombudsman Victoria You can contact the Ombudsman if you feel you have been unfairly treated by a Victorian government department or statutory authority. The Victorian Ombudsmaninvestigates complaints about administrative actions taken by Victorian government departments, statutory authorities and local government.
