Community Legal Centres

Your local generalist Community Legal Centre can provide you with legal advice in relation to the law as it relates to women. Some local CLCs also offer an Intervention Order Support Program and outreach services. See the Find a Local CLC section of our website.

The following generalist and specialist CLCs have expertise in the area of the law as it relates to women and provide a range of services and resources.

  • Aboriginal Family Violence Prevention and Legal Service (FVPLS)
    Provides specialised family violence, family law and victims of crime advice, representation and casework to indigenous women in Victoria.
  • Broadmeadows Community Legal Service
    Broadmeadows Community Legal Service has operated an intervention order service for many years. They have close links with local family violence services. The Broadmeadows Community Legal Service only provides services to people within the centre’s catchment area. However, the Broadmeadows Intervention Order Service provides services to people within the Northern suburbs of Melbourne.
  • Darebin Community Legal Centre
    The Darebin Community Legal Centre runs an Advocacy Program for women in prison, which provides information, referral and advocacy services. Services provided only to people within the centre’s catchment area. Darebin Community Legal Centre also co-ordinates the intervention order service in the specialist family violence court at Heidelberg.
  • Domestic Violence Resource Centre Victoria 
    The Domestic Violence Resource Centre is a specialist CLC that advocates for law reform, manages an extensive library, and publishes several resources dealing with child sexual abuse and domestic violence. Services not dependent on where you live.
  • Footscray Community Legal Centre
    Co-ordinates the Sunshine Intervention Order Service. This is a collaborative service with other western suburbs legal services. Services provided to people who live in the western suburbs of Victoria.
  • Murray Mallee Community Legal Service
    The Murray Mallee Community Legal Service runs Womens' outreach services at Mildura, Robinvale and Dareton (NSW). Services provided only to people within the centre’s catchment area.
  • North Melbourne Legal Service
    The North Melbourne Legal Service runs a Women`s Outreach program at the Hotham Estate. Services provided only to people within the centre’s catchment area.
  • Peninsula Community Legal Centre
    Peninsula Community Legal Centre is a generalist CLC that runs an Intervention Order Support Program at Frankston Magistrates’ Court. Services provided only to people within the centre’s catchment area.
  • Women’s Legal Service Victoria
    The Women’s Legal Service Victoria is a specialist CLC that provides legal services, casework and representation, telephone advice and referral, community education, information and training, and undertakes law reform activities on issues affecting women. Services not dependent on where you live.

Other community organisations

WIRE - Women's Information Referral Exchange

WIRE provides free information, support and referrals to women across Victoria. Women can contact WIRE to talk things through with a sensitive, supportive and skilled woman.
