Volunteer Solicitors
CHCLC is currently embarking on a Volunteer recruitment drive. We require Private Legal Practitioners with a current Practising Certificate to provide legal advice and referral to clients at the Centre in 2012.
The commitment required is 2.5 hours on a Friday afternoon between 1.00pm and 3.30pm on average once every six weeks.
Like many community based organisations, our resources never seem to match our needs. Volunteers are essential to Community Legal Services, and enable them to provide services far in excess of those which could be provided by paid workers alone. Most Community Legal Centres were started by volunteers, and volunteer participation remains strong.
Volunteers strengthen the relationship between the Centre and the Community. Centres are managed by voluntary Committees of Management drawn from the Community.
Community Legal Centres are not simply a cheap alternative to the Private Legal Profession. Volunteers are integral to the establishment and maintenance of a service delivery model, which is fundamentally different to the services available elsewhere in the private legal system.
