Casey Cardinia Community Legal Service
Statement of Objectives
Casey Cardinia Community Legal Service is a community based non profit organisation that aims to assist those individuals, groups and organisations in Dandenong, the City of Casey and the Shire of Cardinia who are disadvantaged and in need of legal assistance and financial counselling.
The Legal Service aims to redress inequality before the law and assist community empowerment through access to legal education and self-help tools. We aim to promote a raised awareness of legal rights through seminars and activity in the community.
2003-04 Objectives
- Promote free and accessible legal and financial counselling services to members of our community, specifically those who are financially or otherwise disdvantaged.
- Continue to provide a free legal advice, referral & casework service five days per week.
- Continue to provide a weekly outreach service to Casey North Community Information & Support Service and a fortnightly outreach service at Community Information Cardinia in Pakenham.
- Continue to provide a free legal advice and referral service on Thursday evenings.
- Ensure on-site interpreters for non-English speaking clients and increase their awareness of our services.
- Participate in Duty Lawyer schemes at the local courts.
- Maintain law student volunteers to assist with management of legal casework and administration.
- Encourage low cost, self-help resolution of disputes.
- Participate in local community groups by providing legal education and attending local community network meetings.
- Participate in the Federation of CLCs Funding Project.
- To research and investigate current funding received by CLCs.
- To analyse the benefits/issues involved.
- To assist developing further funding options for CLCs.
- To utilise the resources of the Legal Service to ensure that it runs to maximum capacity and complies with government requirements.
