Aims and Objectives

Darebin Community Legal Centre's Aims and Objectives include:

  • Encouraging participation in the running of the Centre by people who are not lawyers and people who live in the Darebin area
  • Increasing the understanding that local residents and workers have of the laws and legal processes by providing legal education to the community
  • Encouraging the social, economic and political positions of local residents
  • Participating in the process of changing laws that are unjust or difficult to understand
  • Conducting training courses for volunteer and employed staff to enable them to assist in carrying out the objectives of the Centre
  • Representing the views of the service on behalf of the client group to the State and Federal Governments, Parliament, semi-government and local government bodies
  • Co-operating with other legal aid services
  • Collecting data relevant to research into law related social issues
