Statement of Commitment
Staff, volunteers, Committee of Management and members of Darebin Community Legal Centre are committed to creating access for Indigenous people.
We at Darebin Community Legal Centre recognise the prior ownership of this land. We recognise the inequality and injustices of the past and present towards our Indigenous sisters and brothers. We are sorry for the past and commit ourselves to creating a future that is just. We support and encourage native title rights.
We endeavour to be a part of a process that encourages consultation and negotiation with our Indigenous community. We endeavour to recognise the needs of indigenous people within the Darebin area and address access issues in relation to Darebin Community Legal Centre.
We are committed to providing regular cross-cultural training for our staff, volunteers and Committee of Management to educate ourselves to be more aware of culturally sensitive communication processes.
We are committed to and support a process of reconciliation that is based on the principles of recognition and respect for our Indigenous peoples. We will endeavour to take practical steps to ensure our commitment is seen and heard throughout the wider community.
We commit ourselves to developing a greater understanding of and appreciation for our Indigenous community that ultimately reflects our philosophy of justice and equity for all.
We are committed to facilitating a process of change that is open and based on respect towards our Indigenous community.
