DDLS Objectives

What are the long term goal and objectives of DDLS Inc.?

Long Term Goals:

To maintain, promote and carry out the aims of the Disability Discrimination Act 1993 (Cth), hereafter referred to as "the Act", to ensure:

  • the elimination of discrimination on the basis of disability;

  • that people with disabilities have a right to equal treatment before the law; and

  • to promote community understanding that people with disabilities have the same fundamental rights as the rest of the community.

Objectives to achieve the DDLS' Long Term Goals:

  1. To actively seek the involvement of people with disabilities in the administration and management of the service.

  2. To initiate and participate in educational outreach and information distribution to promote further awareness of the Act to consumers and the community.

  3. To provide a free and readily accessible legal advice assistance, referral and casework service to people with disabilities and to people who assist or work for people with disabilities in relation to issues relevant to the Act.

  4. To initiate and participate in law reform issues relevant to the needs of people with disabilities in relation to the Act.

  5. To initiate, conduct and participate in training and like programs that skill people to a level at which they can competently provide information, referral and educational services in respect of the Act and that they can train other workers in the provision of these services.

  6. To work with and provide advocacy support to organisations and agencies to assist people to self advocate in relation to the Act.

  7. To initiate and participate in the development of resources and educational material in relation to the Act.

  8. To monitor the effectiveness of the Act and the implementation of the Act and to advocate on behalf of the client group to Government, Parliament and semi and local government bodies for legislative and procedural change where necessary.

  9. To develop and maintain systems that ensure planning management and coordination and support of the service.

  10. To initiate and participate in data collection and research in relation to the Act where such can benefit the service and the client group.

  11. To report to and liaise with funding bodies of the service.
