What to expect
In your interview with the solicitor you will be asked to provide any facts about your legal matter. Please bring any relevant documents and information with you to this interview. For example charge sheet, police interview tapes, PERIN statements, current Health Care Card etc. Centre workers will take copies of the relevant documents and return any original documents to you at this interview.
Legal centre staff will consider legal action to be taken and advise you about your legal position. Centre staff will also perform any necessary follow-up work in relation to your case.
Please be advised that although Flemington & Kensington Community Legal Centre is a free Community Legal Centre, the conduct of your case may involve expenses. For example, if your matter involves a court case the following options may be explored:
- we may apply for legal aid, or
- if you do not meet Victoria Legal Aid's guidelines we will see whether our service is able to represent you, or
- we will locate a pro bono service that may be able to take on your case, or
- we will refer you to a barrister, or
- we will outline the possible costs involved that you will have to meet.
All of these options will be discussed with you in the interview. If at any time you do not understand the information provided, ask the solicitor to explain it to you again -we are more than happy to do so.
