Flemington & Kensington Community Legal Centre

What to expect

In your interview you will be asked to provide any facts about your legal matter. Please bring any relevant documents and information with you. For example charge sheet, police interview CD, infringement notices, current Health Care Card etc. Centre workers will take copies of the relevant documents and return any original documents to you at this interview.

Legal centre staff solicitors will consider legal action to be taken and advise you about your legal position. You may be provided with advice only, or we may undertake ongoing work on your matter, as appropriate.

Please be advised that although Flemington & Kensington Community Legal Centre offers its services free of charge, the conduct of your case may involve expenses. For example, if your matter involves a court case, we do not generally have the resources to do court appearances. Therefore the following options may be explored:

  • we may apply for legal aid, or
  • if you do not meet Victoria Legal Aid's guidelines we will see whether our service is able to represent you, or
  • wewill locate a pro bono service that may be able to take on your case, or
  • we will refer you to a barrister, or
  • we will outline the possible costs involved that you will have to meet.

All of these options will be discussed with you in the interview. If at any time you do not understand the information provided, ask to to have it explained it to you again -we are more than happy to do so.
