Areas of the Law

FKCLC provides legal advice, information, referral, and ongoing casework assistance in general criminal, civil and immigration matters.

We are able to offer community outreach appointments or hospital/ home visits upon request. The Legal Service is also involved in community legal education and legal reform work. The Legal Centre is able to provide telephone and on-site interpreters for you.

Contracts and Employment

Limited advice and referral.

Criminal Law

Assist clients to represent themselves, apply for Legal Aid, and brief barrister and or Duty Lawyer to assist in Magistrate and occasionally County Court Matters.

Debt

Consumer Debt and we work closely with Dignity Financial Counseling Service based in our office.

Family Law

Limited Family Law Advice.

Fines and Infringement Notices

PERIN court matters: Public Transport, City Link, and Parking Fines.

Immigration

We provide advice in Refugee offshore and family reunion matters only.

Advice and Referral

Social Security

Centrelink or other Social Security matters.

Tenancy

Tenancy matters are generally referred to the Public or Private Tenants Union. We do provide advice for co-tenancy issues.

Wills
Advice and Referral

Unfortunately, our Legal Service is unable to provide assistance in the following areas:

  • conveyancing
  • commercial matters
  • administration and probate of estates
  • town planning
  • defamation
  • contested family law matters
  • WorkCover

However, we may be able to provide some initial information and refer you to a more suitable service for assistance.
