All workers and volunteers at the Centre are required to be members. Members undertake to agree to the aims and objectives as well as agreeing to abide by the rules of the centre as laid down in the Constitution.
Members are eligible for nomination to the Management Committee and are invited to participate in activities and campaigns run by the Centre. At present, members are recruited from service users, local residents, service providers and other interested bodies.
Volunteer and Membership Forms must be completed by new volunteers and ratified by the Management Committee. Membership is free.
The Flemington & Kensington Community Legal Centre, like all CLCs, relies heavily on volunteers. Over the years, the Centre has developed a Volunteer Program that has supported many students that have gone onto full time employment in their chosen profession. We are committed to ensuring that volunteers are provided with a variety of tasks, adequate support, feedback and training. Our new office space allows us to provide all workers a comfortable and secure working environment.
We encourage volunteers to become aware of the different cultural values within the local community, and to employ community development skills, that is, in certain cases to empower clients to act on their own behalf, or develop links with other community organisations. The Centre endeavours to recruit local volunteers who are fluent in more than one language, however these are not essential requirements.
We are a non-hierarchical organisation and encourage volunteers to become involved in any of our Centre's campaigns or community development projects. Importantly, as a non-hierarchical organisation, all staff members are required to perform their own administrative tasks, and general administrative tasks required by the centre. This policy also applies to volunteers.
