Financial counselling
Footscray Community Legal Centre's Financial Counsellor provides free, independent and confidential information and assistance to people on low incomes who are experiencing financial difficulties.
Our Financial Counsellor is a member of the Financial & Consumer Rights Council of Victoria and the Australian Financial Counselling & Credit Reform Association.
Our Financial Counsellor can give you information and/or assistance in regards to:
- unpaid loans, mortgages, car finance, credit cards
- joint, co-borrowed and guaranteed loans
- gas, electricity, water or telephone disconnections
- Centrelink (Social Security) entitlements and debts
- repossession actions by creditors
- the payment of traffic and police fines and penalties
- your household budget or loan repayment plans
- voluntary bankruptcy information
- family and small business finances and taxation matters
- referrals to legal assistance
Our Financial Counsellor can also talk to your lender, bank or finance provider if your income changes due to unemployment, illness or marriage breakdown etc.
Please note. Our Financial Counsellor provides a free community service. They are not a lawyer or financial planner, hence they do not provide legal advice or representation, investment advice, or financial or material aid.
Appointments with our Financial Counsellor are available between 9.30am-1.00pm and 2.00-4.30pm Monday to Friday.
Referrals to other financial counsellors can be provided.
