Aims and Objectives
The broad aims and objectives of the St Kilda Legal Service are:
- To provide a free and accessible legal service for residents of the Cities of Port Phillip, Stonnington and Bayside.
- To provide a generalist casework service in accordance with the casework guidelines of the Service. The Service will continue to respond to the needs of the local community in determining its casework orientation.
- To provide legal education specifically designed and directed towards local residents with the aim of demystifying the law and the legal processes and to empower them, where possible, to take their own action.
- To provide legal education which is specifically targeted at local community workers and volunteers at the Legal Service.
- To develop and link-up with campaigns on specific issues in response to needs and interests of the local community.
- To promote law reform in areas of the law that disadvantage members of the community.
- To network with local groups and residents in order to develop community awareness and involvement in campaigns, education programs and provision of legal information and resources.
- To adopt a multi-disciplinary and holistic approach by advice and appropriate referrals in related non-legal problems and working with other community organisations.
