About the Wyndham Legal Service Inc.

Wyndham Legal Service

History

Wyndham Legal Service Inc formerly known as the Werribee Legal Service was originally established in 1986 by a group of interested residents, representatives of local organisations and workers from the Western Suburbs Legal Service. For many years the Service operated solely on the strength of its volunteers.

In 1990 the Legal Service came under the auspice of the then Werribee Citizens Advice Bureau, which enabled the Service to apply for funding through the Commonwealth’s Community Legal Centres Funding Program. In late 1992 the Service received funding of $13,199, which enabled the appointment, in April 1993, of a half time co-coordinator/solicitor.

In July 1995, the Service became a separate incorporated organisation under the Associations Incorporated Act 1981 (Vic) managed by a locally based volunteer Committee of Management. The Service has grown steadily since its incorporation.

In December 2005 the Service formally known as the Werribee Legal Service Inc., became the Wyndham Legal Service Inc. to better reflect its target are adequately.

Location

The Service is located in the Werribee central business district, close to the Werribee Station and Bus Terminal, thus making it the ideal place for people to drop into each week for legal information, referrals, advice and general assistance. It is located at Suite 10, 2-14 Station Place, Werribee.
