Standing Groups

Overview

The Federation has two standing groups to guide our work by providing oversight and direction regarding community legal sector needs and strategy. Membership of the groups is drawn from member centres, our Management Committee and our staff.

2008 standing groups

Sector Development Standing Group
The Sector Development Standing Group examines and determines community legal sector needs and strategy. This standing group:

  • identifies and discusses sector issues at Federation Members’ Meetings
  • makes recommendations regarding sector trends, priorities and strategies to the Federation's Management Committee
  • develops resource strategies
  • prepares Federation submissions, and
  • works in collaboration with the Executive Officer, working groups and ad hoc task groups.

Justice Initiatives Standing Group
The Justice Initiative Standing Group oversees justice initiatives in line with the Federation’s strategic priorities and supports the justice initiative priorities of the Federation's Members’ Meetings.

This standing group:

  • maps the scope and outcomes of justice initiatives undertaken by working groups on behalf of the Federation
  • oversees working groups' terms of reference and annual work plans
  • supports and co-ordinates working groups
  • provides recommendations to the Federation's Members’ Meetings regarding justice issues, policy directions and potential alliances
  • develops resource strategies for working groups, and
  • supports the Federation's Policy Officer.
