Including telephone and face-to-face advice and appointments, BCLS also offers other services.
Night Service
Night Service is run on Tuesday nights and is staffed by volunteer lawyers who donate their time to assist BCLS service users who cannot make appointments during the day. It is by appointment only.
Student Clinic
This is a service staffed by final year law students from Deakin University and supervised by our Principal Lawyer. It provides an opportunity for the students to interview clients and manage their own files, including processing divorce applications and writing wills, as well as what it's like being a lawyer. As their work is always checked by our principal lawyer, the service is not only a chance for students to gain practical experience, but also a chance for clients to help make better lawyers!
Community Information, Education and Law Reform
As a community legal centre, BCLS provides community legal education to interested community groups on various legal topics, such as wills and powers of attorney, divorce, seniors rights, welfare rights, etc. We actively promote changes to the law in response to community issues and contribute to law reform through our networks at state and national levels.
